Allowing people of age to vote for themselves

Why the article is helpful

  • Remove barriers to voting
  • Examines several evolving voting technologies and their impact on persons with cognitive and physical disabilities
  • Advocates for universal access as an important goal in technology and voting

This article examined how new technology should make voting accessible to all users without relying on the assistance from others and its impact on persons with disabilities. Many of these challenges could be addressed by having a better interface design: good viewability, redundancy of cues, clear and simple onscreen training materials, and the reduced cognitive complexity of onscreen environments. Simple interfaces with fewer buttons also help voters have less to learn and tend to make fewer mistakes.
